Elizabeth Savetsky is a wife, a mom, and the accessory loving fashionista you can’t help but be inspired by! Her blog, Excessories Expert
, is all about fashion, accessories and how to rework the same accessories repeatedly to create fresh looks. We recently partnered with Elizabeth to show our Hot Sox Fall 2017 Look Books so had a chance to chat with Elizabeth and learn a bit more about her accessories obsession!
Q: Elizabeth, how did you get into blogging and what challenges have you faced?
Elizabeth: I actually worked at a fashion PR company for 5 years. My colleagues were always amused by my wacky accessories. I would come into work at 9am and show up wearing these accessories like a golden turban for example. It was actually them who encouraged me to start a fashion blog because they noticed my love for accessories. Initially when I started my fashion blog, it was probably the 27th priority on my list. I wanted to focus on accessories because I believe that accessories can make or break an outfit. This accessories focused blog has been going for 3 years now but 9 months ago I decided to run with this love of accessories and quit my job!
Blogging is an over saturated market. I think that constantly staying ahead of the curve is important. I try not to look too much at what other people are doing. In fact, I’m not very good at following other people on Instagram for this reason. I feel that doing so stifles creativity so you should tune out the rest of the world and go with what your heart says.
I’m really trying to incorporate my family a lot more in my posts because the most important thing to me as somebody who is putting themselves out there is being authentic. I feel by adding my family into my posts I’m letting my audience in on more of the real life that I live.
Q: A lot of moms end up sacrificing fashion in what they believe to be the best interest of their children. What, if anything, would you like to tell these moms?
Elizabeth: The second you stop taking care of yourself, you’re telling your kids it’s not important. My mom has always told me that, to be a better mom, you have to be more than a mom. When you feel better about the way you look, whether it be through fashion, working-out, etc., you will just radiate confidence and what can set a better example than that for your children? You don’t have to take two hours to get ready. I’m not saying that. A little goes a long way! It takes me 10 minutes to get ready without having to resort to athleisure.
Q: What and who have been some of your favorite fashion icons?
Elizabeth: I’m into big, bold, pop-art type fashion and accessories from the 60s era and whimsical bohemian from the 70s. I am constantly inspired by Ed Sedgwick, Marissa Berenson. Oh and Iris Afpel, in her 90s! I try to still always incorporate these elements with a modern edge. It’s kind of my jam. I love it!

Q: So tell me Elizabeth, what 5 things can you not live without?
Elizabeth: 1. My Mophi phone charger because I’m always on my phone. 2. Big sunglasses so I don’t look tired without time for makeup in the morning while also looking glamorous with little effort. 3. Uber. 4. Fake eyelashes! Right now, I’m actually really into Elite Lashes from Duane Reade. 4. My family… is that too cheesy?
Q: What was your inspiration for the Hot Sox Fall 2017 Look-Book shoot?
Elizabeth: My inspiration was an uptown NYC girl… with a sock fetish. I thought it would be cute to have it just be like an Upper East Side fashion loving girl who just happens to incorporate these eccentric socks in her chic wardrobe. It is very true to me and my own style so I wanted it to be fun and also chic.
I think socks are having a major moment in fashion right now. To be able to work with a company like Hot Sox which has been established for many decades at a time when fashion is waking up to the socks as accessories trend is exciting.
Thanks so much for chatting with us about fashion, accessories, and life Elizabeth!
